What’s your name? JLee
What do you do/what part(s) of the biz do you work in?
I'm a $tripper in Detroit!
How have you made yourself stand out when working?
I'm always learning new pole tricks to stand out on stage. On the floor, I reel in the custies with my best smile and conversational skills. And of course, I am always dressing to stand out and impress.
What is something you feel needs to change in the industry?
Strip clubs need to support the dancers rather than borderline exploiting them. A good place to start could be requiring customers to tip the dancers a minimum amount upon entry, similar to clubs requiring a "two-drink minimum". No more dead-beat custies enjoying a free show!!
What is your best tip for making money at work?
Choose your club wisely. Dance at a club that appreciates your aesthetic and body type. And when it comes to the customers, make them feel special by talking about the #1 person in their life - THEM!
What has been your biggest challenge in the industry?
I'm a people-pleaser by nature, so learning how to set and enforce my boundaries at work was a huge challenge. It's definitely gotten easier with time and the realization that no amount of money is worth feeling violated.
What do you wish people knew about us (SWers), and about you personally as a SWer?
I wish people knew that SW is a legitimate job and to treat it as such. I also wish strip club customers knew that the dancers pay to be there and to tip us accordingly. Personally, I want people to know I'm not being forced to work there and that I enjoy my job!
What is something you wish you’d known when you started in the industry?
Just like most anything, networking is going to work heavily in your favor. Find a manager, get on their good side ASAP and stay out of drama! It will pay off later when you need them to cut you some slack.
What are your plans for the future?
I'm currently a student dentist. I'll be graduating in May of 2023, moving across the state to practice dentistry, and live with my husband full-time (yes, I'm married too!).
